In case you still, for some inexplicable reason, have some misguided belief that Sydney property prices aren't that ridiculous, let us tell you about a house that recently sold for $2 million.

Close to 200 people filed through the doors of the Greenwich property over the weekend before the three-bed house sold for $270,000 above the $1.8 million reserve - despite having contained a mummified body for at least 10 years.

According to Domain, the corpse was found rolled up in a carpet among piles of hoarded belongings after the former owner, Bruce Roberts, died of a heart attack last year.

The body belonged to a Shane Snellman, who police believe broke into the Greendale Street home in an attempted robbery and was killed by Roberts in the process.

Journalist Tawar Razaghi was at the auction, sharing photos of the rundown building on Twitter along with quotes - "I wonder where the mummified body was?" - from some of the hundreds of people who filed through.

The house now belongs to an expat family living in Singapore, with local builder Rob West, who bid on their behalf, telling news.com.au that none of them were bothered by the address' history.

"Lots of people die in old houses," he said. "Every house has a history and this one is just a bit more interesting."

Perhaps more unbelievably, the short-term plan for the property is to renovate it for tenants to move in - before the new owners tear it down completely and rebuild.

We don't get it either.
