Move over literally any other movie, game or TV show ever: Grand Theft Auto 5 has been estimated to be the most profitable piece of entertainment ever.
Even adjusting for inflation, the most recent instalment in the Grand Theft Auto series has topped the list, according to Cowen.
Their managing direction and senior research analyst of the media and entertainment sector Doug Creutz estimates GTA 5 has brought in approximately $6 billion, thanks to 90 million units sold.
“I think it’s a wild outlier," he told MarketWatch.
“That’s not to say Rockstar won’t have other big hits—it may—but another GTA 5 isn’t likely. Michael Jackson had a lot of hit albums but he only had one Thriller.”
It tops anything else released in the entertainment industry, from Star Wars to Gone With The Wind, which both saw about $3 billion in theaters.
We can thank Trevor Phillips Enterprises for that one.
