A Japanese rail company has issued an apology after one of their services departed a whole 25 seconds early.

A service on May 11 was due to depart at 7:12 am from Notogawa station, in central Japan, but due to a miscommunication, the train left at 7:11:35 am instead.

The conductor accidentally closed the doors ahead of schedule, with at least one customer reporting they could not get on the service.

“We inconvenienced our customers very much, and we will strive to prevent this from occurring again,” JR West said in a statement, reported by the country's Asahi newspaper.

“The great inconvenience we placed upon our customers was truly inexcusable."

JR West has said further education and training will be carried out to ensure this does not happen again.

It's the second time this has happened in six months, with another train company issuing an apology after a service left 20 seconds early.
