A follow-up to Netflix's massive hit series Making A Murderer is coming...but it's not a sequel.

Netflix has long promised a sequel to the TV series that made waves three years ago, but instead this will change direction.

The follow-up will be a spin-off series, titled Convicting A Murderer, which will re-tell the entire story from the prosecution's perspective.

The series will not come from the same makers, though, with Cleveland-based crime filmmaker Shawn Rech taking the project on board.

The original filmmakers - or Netflix - are not involved in the series.

Rech said the series will clear up any misconceptions, with suggestions the initial series was one-sided.

"We fight for the truth," Rech said in a statement about the new series.

"We’ll present all of the evidence in the Avery case from the perspective of both the prosecution and the defense and see if viewers feel the same way they did two years ago following the first season of Making A Murderer."

In other words, Rech is making a rival series.

This'll be interesting...
