The traditional sausage was off the menu at Bunnings Mentone on the weekend.

Cheltenham Cat Rescue hosted the Sausage Sizzle which was exclusively vegan.

The Bunnings Mentone Facebook page has been hit with a serious of complaints.

“That is un-un-australian & they should be tried for treason!,” Terry wrote on Facebook.

“This country is going to the dogs! Or in this case; the cats! WTF is going on????,” Steve asked..

Will was perhaps more measured with his complaint: “Bunnings sausage sizzle. Was most excited for a snag, then find out there is a cat rescue group running it and they are doing only vegan snags. No meat at all. What in gods name has happened?!?!?”

“Dont be f***ing with the Bunnings snag!,” Roger complained.

Jake came out swinging in support of the Cat Rescue group: "Suck it up buttercup, they aren't hurting anybody. Don't like it don't get one."

Bunnings State Operations Manager, Tony Manzone, told news.com.au  Bunnings has been supporting thousands of local community groups via the fundraising sausage sizzle.

“Since their inception the guidelines have been consistent. Meat sausages, onions and bread. This has not changed,” Mr Manzone said.

“However, in recent years, and on a case-by-case basis, we also allow community groups to have a vegan fundraising sausage sizzle if that is their preference, which is supported by appropriate customer signage. In addition, our cafes provide vegetarian and other options for customers if required.”
