It was only a matter of time but Narcos is officially getting the video game treatment.

Curve Digital confirmed that they have acquired the rights and will be adapting the hit Netflix series for PC and consoles, promising to maintain the show's "grittiness".

"We're looking forward to creating a game that matches the fantastic storyline and gritty action of the Netflix series," Curve Digital's Brynley Gibson said.

"We're tremendously excited and have some amazing gameplay elements in the works that will please both fans of the show and gamers."

The company's MD Jason Perkins added: "Narcos is a fantastic license for us to work with. This critically acclaimed show from Gaumont lends itself perfectly to a video game execution and we're excited and proud to be bringing this to market."

While a fourth season of the wildly popular show - which follows the exploits of drug baron Pablos Escobar - has now been confirmed, there were questions about its future after the murder of a crew member last year.

Carlos Muñoz Portal was found shot to death last September while scouting locations near the border of Hidalgo state.

Soon after, Escobar's brother Roberto De Jesus Escobar Gaviria, threatened to "close their little show down" if Netflix didn't pay him $1 billion, recommending that the "hire hitmen for security".
