There have been rumours, reports and plenty of rumblings from the world of emojis for a long time as, update after update, the red-headed emoji users among us missed out on representation.

But yesterday afternoon Apple finally confirmed the news that we've been waiting for: We're getting ginger emojis and we're getting them this year.

To celebrate World Emoji Day, the tech giant offered Emojipedia a first look at the new icons headed our way.

Along with redheads, users with curly hair, grey hair and absolutely no hair will now be able to plump for a suitable emoji thanks to the 70-strong new range.

"As always, some of the most vocal requests for new emojis are about representation, and this update delivers some of the most common requests," Emojipedia's Jeremy Burge told CNN.

"In particular, the redheads and curly haired options are likely to be popular."

If you're not one of the two per cent of the population with red hair, you'll probably still find something to enjoy in Emoji 11.0; we'll soon have a kangaroo, a mango, lettuce, a cupcake and a very, very cold emoji.

While we don't have an exact release date, Apple tend to follow a pretty reliable pattern of dropping emoji additions in an update AFTER the major yearly iOS version, so keep an eye out come October time.
