A bloke in New Zealand has copped an immediate dose of karma after accidentally destroying a sculpture.

Hunter Macdonald claimed he climbed the metal sculpture, named Water Whirler, on the water front in Wellington because he was "bored" on his day off work.

Macdonald said he was urged on by the growing crowd to climb the sculpture, but unfortunately for him, as the sculpture began to curve back around on itself, it snapped under the pressure causing Macdonald to plunge into water and smacking him square in the face in the process.

He surfaced from the water with a bloodied head and face and took himself to hospital to have his gashes treated.

"I seemed to attract a bit of an audience - Hunter Macdonald loves a good audience, he's a bit of a showman," Macondald said about himself in the third person.

The sculpture cost New Zealand tax payers $300,000NZD to create, and a further $700,000 to install, so you could say that Macdonald's antics haven't really been taken lightly with police confirming today they will lay charges for the incident.
