A college student in Alabama has had a new car gifted to him by his CEO after walking a whopping 32 kilometres to work.

20-year-old Walter Carr had his car break down right before a removalist job for moving company Bellhops, meant to start at 8 am.

So Carr walked.

He left home at midnight, walking for hours before police spotted him and picked him up, buying him breakfast and dropping him off at the destination.

The customer, Jenny Lamey, expressed her amazement in a Facebook post, as well as starting a GoFundMe page for his car.

And what did his company do? Gifted him a car.

"This is my car, and I drive it just barely," Bellhops CEO Luke Marklin told him.

"And I'd like it to be your car."
