A recent survey conducted suggests the age-old pub shout is on the way out, with Aussies fed up with stingy mates not pitching in for their share.

The "Whose Shout" survey, conducted by financial lender ME, suggests more than half of Australian's find the tradition of going into a shout unfair.

Of the 1,000 Aussies surveyed, 51 per cent of people said they don’t get a drink bought back for them in a shout and 55 per cent believe shouting results in them buying more expensive drinks for their buddies.

So why does it still exist in Australian culture?

ME's findings argue that 42 per cent of people feel they're expected to partake, while a further 39 per cent revealed they didn't want to look like a 'tight arse', and the other 29 per cent felt it would appear 'un-Australian' to not partake.
