According to an article in the New York Times, Australia now ranks 51st for average speeds in developed countries, lagging behind Thailand and Kenya.

The poor speed results are seriously frustrating Australians, both in business and at home. According to the NY Times article, a Brisbane based software company, for example, still resorts to sending large files to Melbourne via Australia Post, because it ends up being a quicker process.

In computer nerd terms, Australia Post is traditionally referred to as "snail mail". Maybe that needs to be changed for here in Australia?
