As phone screens keep getting bigger - remember when small phones were the most technologically advanced? - so too do their keyboards, which has turned sending a quick text into a two-handed job.

But you don't always have two hands free, do you? You might be at the pub or in bed or eating and have something else to hold on to.

Which is where one of Apple's hidden features comes in handy (sorry); a little-known setting can turn your default keyboard into either a right-handed or left-handed version.

To activate your setting of choice, open up a new iMessage and, when you start to type, you'll see the little emoji icon in the bottom left corner.

Press and hold it down and you'll see a couple of options pop up, including three keyboard icons along the bottom.

The one with the arrow pointing to the left will shift all of the keys to the left side of the screen while the one with the arrow to the right will do the opposite.

And if you decide you're happy with the original function, hit the regular looking keyboard option in the middle.

While it's not exactly a brand new function, the one-handed keyboard has managed to fly under-the-radar since iOS 8 - more than five years ago.
