One US kindergarten has posted a nursery rhyme teaching kids to hide during a school shooting.

Twitter user Georgy Cohen posted a photo of the nursery rhyme, which was posted in a classroom in Somerville, Massachusetts.

It tells kids what to do in the event of a shooting and goes to the tune of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.

"This should not be hanging in my soon-to-be-kindergartener’s classroom," Cohen wrote.

"I’m only going to add one more comment to this: the school is doing exactly what they need to be doing, and I am glad for it.

"My issue is with the political & cultural factors that brought us to this sad state. Please talk to your legislators about the need for gun reform."

Somerville mayor Joseph Curtatone and superintendent Mary Skipper said in a joint statement to The Boston Globe that "unfortunately, this is the world we live in".

"Just like school fire drills, lockdown drills have sadly become a common practice in schools, and educators do everything they can to reduce students’ anxiety and stress."
