But, where do we live then?

How's this for an existential crisis on your Friday - a US student has failed an exam because her professor believes Australia "isn't a country".

Yep, according to this college professor (who has a PhD in philosophy) we are living in some non-governed wasteland.

Ashley Arnold from Idaho is completing an online sociology degree with Southern New Hampshire University.

As part of that degree she had to complete a project where students had to compare a social norm in the United States to that of another country.

Arnold chose to compare social media use in the US and Australia.

After putting in hours of hard work, Arnold was shocked to discover that she failed the project because her professor believed Australia to be a continent, not a country.

“At first I thought it was a joke; This can’t be real. Then as I continued to read I realized she was for real," she told BuzzFeed News.

The professor had given Arnold zero points in multiple sections of the assignment because she believed that Australia wasn't a real country.

“With her education levels, her expertise, who wouldn’t know Australia is a country?" asked Arnold. "If she’s hesitating or questioning that, why wouldn’t she just google that herself?”

After multiple emails back and forth, the professor seemingly conceded that fact that Australia is in fact a country, and decided to remark Arnold's project within the next two weeks.

For the record, Australia is both a continent AND a country. A simple Google search will show you that fact.
