There's an actual reason for it

In today's edition of "No Shit, Sherlock", scientists have confirmed that having sex right before bed can help you fall asleep.

While the study was aimed more at finding a natural remedy for sleeplessness than figuring out why most of us pass out as soon as the deed is done, it should make things a little clearer to fed-up women around the world.

According to Michele Lastella, a researcher from Central Queensland University's Appleton Institute for Behavioral Science in Adelaide, two-thirds of the 460 people surveyed slept better after a shag.

"The project is based on some preliminary research evidence that, after humans have sex and achieve orgasm, we have a massive release of a hormone called oxytocin," Lastella said.

"This hormone among many other feel-good hormones has been said to act as a sedative to reduce the time it takes to fall asleep."

So if you need a decent night's sleep, Lastella says, you should be swapping your last-minute social media scrolling for some action between the sheets.

"There's strong evidence to suggest substituting screen time for play time," he told The Advertiser. "When you're engaging in sex, you're not thinking about what to do the next day, you're not going through your phones.

"It distracts you."

Any excuse, hey?
