Western Australia. The greatest of outdoors.

When it comes to taking your family off for a camping getaway, there’s no place lie WA for getting back to nature.

Countless exciting activities and the most spectacular scenery on Earth, it doesn’t get any better than this. Especially at night when the sky lights up with the best star-show this side of the Milky Way.

Here are, in our humble experience, eight of the very best experiences in this glorious state to get on the list for your next family holiday.

Beelu National Park

Easily accessible from Perth, there’s public camping at Perth Hills Centre here every Friday and Saturday night, making it a terrific weekender from the city. The walking trails are spectacular and it’s super family-friendly.

Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park

If it’s animal-life or maybe a spot of fishing you’re after, this is your place. Spend your day under the beautiful blues skies sinking the line in the water and enjoying some of the best bird-watching in Australia. The waves smashing into the coast and pristine beaches are two experiences not to miss.

Cape Le Grand National Park

Talking of beaches, the star attraction here are your co-sunbakers. It’s not unusual to see kangaroos lying out on the soft sands at Lucky Bay, Australia's whitest beach. They’re so used to human contact you can even approach and say hi!

Francois Peron National Park

After a change of pace for something faster and tougher? Francois Peron  National Park is renowned as a brilliant place for 4x4 driving adventure – probably one for if you’ve got older kids. The stunning red cliffs and beaches that hug the coast make this one of the more photogenic journeys on our list.

Purnululu National Park

If the above has got your Instagram game excited, wait ‘til you check this place out. Home to the Bungle Bungle Range - surely the best-named of any mountain range in the country – Purnululu is an extraordinary place with magnificent rolling topography and walks between rising mounds and hills.

Cape Range National Park

A setting so beautiful that it’s been listed a site of World Heritage by UNESCO. A spectacular range of red canyons and rivers winding across the plain down to some of the best beaches in WA (and therefore the world). Incredible fishing, amazing family campsites, beautiful beaches…what more could you ask for?

Fitzgerald River National Park

Now THIS is getting back to nature. Fitzgerald River is your guide as it wends its way through the greatest of great outdoors and more stunning beaches at its end. This is wilderness at its most scenic and satisfying.

Karijini National Park

Have we saved the best ‘til last? With such stiff competition it’s hard to say. But this place could top the lot. Over two billion years old, sights as rich, beautiful and magnificent as anywhere you’ll ever see, this is a camping experience to last several lifetimes.
