Townsville City Council is once again taking part in one of Australia’s biggest community and sustainability event, the Garage Sale Trail in October.

Registrations are now open for the 2018 Garage Sale Trail which will be held on Saturday 20 October and Sunday 21 October.

The event is open to households, schools, community groups and other groups that are interested in getting involved.

Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said the Garage Sale Trail is a fun and social way to encourage reuse and recycling and to educate the community about the waste we generate.

“The Garage Sale Trail is a great way to meet your neighbours and connect with the community while decluttering and raising money for yourself or local groups,” Cr Hill said.

“One household’s trash could be another’s treasure and this event could help rehome those once loved items instead of them ending up in landfill.

“We’re really proud to be involved in a grassroots event that benefits the whole community and the environment, and hope that the Trail continues to grow every year.”

Organisers of the national event expect over 1.5 million items will be listed for sale and re-use in 2018.

Garage Sale Trail Co-Founder Darryl Nichols said sellers are asked to name their sale to add some fun and colour to their garage sale event.

“Some past examples include The Almost Deceased Estate, It’s a Divorce, Garage Sale of the Century and The Only Lionel Vinyl Sale,” Mr Nichols said.

The first 1,250 participants who register before 15 September will receive a free seller’s pack with posters, price tags and other extras to help their sale succeed.
