Townville CityLibraries is celebrating its 80th birthday – with a huge program of entertainment from writers’ workshops to singing and dancing robots.

All CityLibraries venues will host events and workshops to celebrate 80 years in the Townsville community.

Community and Cultural Development Committee Chair Cr Colleen Doyle said the activities were for all ages including a heritage cycle tour, poetry performances and public speaking workshops for teenagers.

“We have events like retro games night, book week and Storytime for kids and singing and dancing robots – whatever your age, we will have an activity for you,” Cr Doyle said.

“Townsville loves their libraries and we want locals to help us celebrate 80 wonderful years by joining in on some of these great events.

“Our libraries are a much loved community service that provide engaging and interactive learning spaces for people of all ages.

“Our local libraries offer programs from Lego clubs for kids through to technology lessons and book clubs for all residents.”

Seniors can get hands-on experience with singing and dancing robots at Thuringowa Library this Wednesday.

Cr Doyle said seniors will be shown how to make robots race, wrestle, sing and dance.

“It’s a fun and interactive 2 hour activity where seniors can share and play with robots and become creators of technology,” Cr Doyle said.

CityLibraries is celebrating all things STEM in conjunction with National Science Week.

The workshop will be held from 10am to 12 pm on Wednesday at Thuringowa Library.

The 80th birthday celebrations will run until the 17th of November where there will be a final 80th birthday bash.
