Locals were thrilled with the news that Council were extending the opening hours of the Strand Water Park, but the fun will come to an end soon.

Local Councillor Ann-Maree Greaney said the decision was great news for parents and families.

“The Strand Water Park is really popular and its extended hours have been a great hit with the community,” Cr Greaney said.

After the Easter School Holidays the opening hours will be reduced back to 10am-6pm.

“Keeping the extended hours until after the Easter holidays gives families the best opportunity to enjoy the Water Park.

“These holidays are an exciting time in Townsville, with Festival 2018 on and plenty of free activities for families.”

The Water Park will be open 9am until 8pm through to 15 April, when the opening time will move back to 10am.

Infrastructure Committee Chair Cr Mark Molachino said the decision to extend the opening hours was an easy one to make.

“The community made it very clear that extended opening hours was something they wanted, so Council listened and brought forward the opening of the Strand Water Park to 9am,” Cr Molachino said.

“Council is keeping the extended hours until after the holidays because it’s what the community wants.

“The Water Park is there for families to enjoy and keeping it open longer means residents can visit the Park when it suits them.”
