This Week We're Celebrating Townsville's Thousands Of Volunteers

It's National Volunteer Week and we're ready to celebrate our locals giving their time in our community.

Volunteering North Queensland, as the regional body for volunteering, is holding an event tonight to acknowledge and celebrate the generous contributions of volunteers in our community.

The celebration in Townsville will host the inaugural 2018 North Queensland Volunteer of the Year award announcement and presentations.

Additionally, a Corporate Expo will provide a unique opportunity for local businesses and the not-for-profit community to connect and develop corporate volunteering and sponsorship relationships.

Here's some facts about North Queensland volunteers from the last 12 months:

  • 1,100 North Queenslanders expressed an interest in volunteering at organisations and special events
  • The highest level of interest came from those aged 35-55 and under 25 at 30% and 26% respectively
  • When it comes to filling volunteer roles, those aged 55+ lead the way at 38%, followed by those under 25 at 25% and those aged 35-55 at 23%
