Since it's creation in the 1960s, Lavarack Barracks has become an icon in Townsville and has produced many honorary Veterans.

Dozens of businesses across town offer defence discounts all year round, but one Barber is getting ready for something special in the lead up to ANZAC Day.

Gentleman Jones Barber Shop & Whiskey Bar will welcome Veterans through their doors with no charge for hair cuts on April 21.

"For the 8th year in a row, we the Gentleman Jones team would like to offer Gentlemen Veterans - young and not so young - FREE haircuts as a way to say thank you, for your service and thank you for your patronage," staff wrote on their Facebook page.

We currently have around 5000 serving military personnel contributing to approximately 20% of the overall Townsville population.

Thousands of locals will set their alarms for dawn services across Townsville on April 25, stay tuned for a full list of locations and times.
