A tiny 3 hours north of us, Mission Beach is a popular destination for Townsville holiday seekers and now we're even more keen to get there.

A complete rebuild of the popular resort ‘Castaways Resort and Spa’ at Mission Beach which will see an increase in the number of rooms from 48 to up to 226, in 126 units.

The new look resort will include a genuine regional conference facility, five pools (two existing and three additional), expanded multi-level dining and underground parking for 160 cars.

The iconic Castaways at Mission Beach has been operating for over 30 years and has undergone many renos over the years.

Under the current owners, the resort was given a soft refurbishment in 2006, and in 2010 saw the Neville Smith Group spend $6M transforming the resort into an award winning beachfront resort.

In 2015, the group purchased the adjacent property known as Mackays to bolster their room inventory.

Despite the addition of Mackays to the Castaways overall inventory, the current resort is still struggling to cater to the growing demand in peak periods.

After months of analysis, the owners have determined a “knock-down and rebuild” provides the best long-term solution to the dedicated beachfront site.

The $70 million cash injection into Mission Beach will have a construction phase and ongoing operations set to generate hundreds of local jobs.

We're so excited to see the finished product once construction begins in 2019!
