Albany locals will soon be able to get in shape while reducing litter with the international fitness craze plogging coming to Albany.

Originating in Sweden in 2016, plogging involves picking up litter while jogging or walking briskly and Albany is believed to be the first community in WA to give it a go.
Environmental Sustainability Officer and keen runner Mary Holt will be leading five weeks of plogging as part of the Term 2

Active Albany program run by Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre.
"I'm passionate about our environment and run most days so plogging is the perfect mix," Ms Holt said. "Most people are surprised at the workout they get from a session of brisk rubbish collecting."
Plogging is a full body workout and includes bending, squatting and stretching to pick up rubbish.

The plogging program will run weekly from 5pm on Thursdays, commencing May 31. Walkers are welcome to join in too.
"It's the perfect chance to have a workout and help the environment before heading home after work," Ms Holt said.

Active Albany offers a range of affordable activities, groups and workshops designed to help community members of all ages become more active and healthy.
