A Silver lining for Bendigo

The 2018 Silver Lining Ride is coming to Bendigo

“From the capital of the country to the capital of coffee” Justin Flynn, the husband of ovarian cancer fighter Leane Flynn, is part of a team of 12 cycling more than 1,000 kilometres from Canberra to the MCG to raise $150,000 and awareness for the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation (OCRF). The 7 day Silver Lining Ride 2018 begins on Monday, October 22 at Parliament House, Canberra with riders to pedal through Goulburn, Murrumburrah, Wagga Wagga, Gundagai, Albury, Shepparton, Bendigo, Romsey before arriving at the MCG on Sunday October 28. Shadow Minister for Women, Tanya Plibersek, will start the ride alongside Channel 9 Presenter and OCRF Ambassador Lauren Phillips and OCRF CEO Lucinda Nolan.

It’s the second staging of the event, following last year’s trek from Adelaide to Melbourne which raised $127,000 in honour of and inspired by friends lost to the insidious disease, Mandy Herbert and Helen Hatzis. Now, there are more kilometres to pedal, more towns to visit, more people to meet, more awareness to raise and more tins to rattle. In Australia, 1 woman will lose her ovarian cancer fight every 8 hours, Developing an early detection test is vital. 

There are 12 Silver Lining Riders including: Justin Flynn - Leanne’s husband Lisa Marshall - Leanne’s twin sister Clint Stanaway - Channel 9 Sports Presenter Georgie Herbert - Daughter of ovarian cancer victim, Mandy Thomas Sorensen - Former EPL and Denmark international goalkeeper Daniel Bell - Former Melbourne Football Club defender Georgina Wright -
