BENDIGO SCORES NATIONAL NETBALL TOURNAMENT IN MARCH

Bendigo has scored a sporting coup thanks to funding from the Andrews Government.

Member for Bendigo West, Maree Edwards today announced the Melbourne Vixens will host a pre-season tournament in March next year, playing three other Suncorp Super Netball teams.

The tournament has been made possible thanks to funding from the government’s Significant Sporting Events Program and Regional Events Fund.

Each game is expected to attract up to 4,000 spectators at Bendigo Stadium and will also be livestreamed on Facebook to potentially hundreds of thousands of fans around the country.

Alongside the competition on March 30 and 31 there will be a range of sporting and community events.

These include coaching and umpiring clinics, training for junior and senior netballers, teacher development clinic, opportunities for local clubs to play during the tournament, guest appearances, and forums featuring all-time greats including the Vixens current specialist coach Sharelle McMahon.

This netball blitz is one of many events secured through the latest round of the government’s $17.7 million Significant Sporting Events Program and $20.7 million Regional Events Fund.

More than 500 events have been funded through the Significant Sporting Events Program alone. More than half of these events were held in regional Victoria, boosting local jobs and economies.

“The Andrews Government is proud to bring the best netballers to Bendigo in March. It gives us the opportunity to showcase our wonderful facilities and location to the rest of Australia.”

“I encourage everyone to come along to what promises to be an action-packed sports spectacle.”

“Victoria is proud to be Australia’s sporting capital and the Andrews Government is attracting the top sporting events and sportspeople from across the world.”
