Great news! More women and girls will soon be shooting goals in Bendigo, as new female-friendly facilities are to be built at Queen Elizabeth Oval!

The Sandhurst Football Netball Club currently has no dedicated female facilities near their courts and will now boast a modern functional facility at the oval consisting of two female change rooms for the club's netball contingent, unisex umpires change rooms, accessible facilities for players and visitors, a first aid room and storage facilities.

It was announced on Monday by Minister for Sport John Eray that $100,000 in funding from the Community Sports Infrastructure Fund will be used for the project saying, "“We’re proud to be building these female-friendly facilities here at Queen Elizabeth Oval – giving players and administrators the safe, modern and inclusive facilities they deserve.”

Alongside the female-friendly facilities at Queen Elizabeth Oval, a new hockey pavilion will be introduced at Bendigo Regional Hockey Centre. The new pavilion, valued at $4.95M, will include six unisex change rooms, two umpires’ change rooms (with drug testing capacity), public amenities, social space and elevated viewing decks, kiosk and kitchen, first aid room, extensive storage facilities, a meeting room and separate office.

The Bendigo Regional Hockey Centre is used by seven clubs, with a combined 800 members. The project will include the installation of a new wet pitch, which will meet the International Hockey Federation's global standards.

Here's to a more inclusive future for female athletes and sport participation growing in Bendigo!
