April 25 is one of the most important days on the Australian calendar. ANZAC day is a day for us to remember and reflect on the sacrifices of our fallen Australian comrades. Not only did you fight to preserve the way of life we hold so dear, the ANZACs and their spirit is sewn into Australian culture, and defines us on the international stage.

Esperance RSL will once again be holding a memorial service commemorating the ANZAC’s, beginning with a march and dawn service at 6am.

The day will be extra special this year. Esperance is one of the few (if any) centres that still allows the Light Horse Troop to march alongside the other marchers on foot. This year the RSL would also like to put more of a focus on our younger Australians, who will carry the ANZAC message in the future. There will be presentations and speeches from a couple of our younger Esperance people, as well as other moving pieces commemorating the ANZACs.

The following is the schedule for the day

5.50am | Marchers step off from Esperance Post Office corner.

6.00am | Dawn Service at Memorial Park, 84 Dempster St, Esperance.

6.30am | Gunfire Breakfast catered by Rotary Club of Esperance after Dawn Service outside RSL Hall Memorial Park.

10.30am | March from Andrews Street car park, opposite Esperance Pier Hotel.

11.00am | Memorial Service at Esperance Memorial Park, 84 Dempster St, Esperance.

Following the main service the Esperance Lions Club will be putting on a lunch outside the RSL Hall at Esperance Memorial park, with food and drink available to purchase.

Esperance 10th Light Horse Troop will be attending both services, please refrain from bringing your dogs.

AND if you can’t wake up and make the service, do not worry you can listen to the entire service from underneath your bed covers or at home or even in your car! As Triple M will be broadcasting live from the event. Tune in at just before 6am for the coverage, Esperance’s 747am Triple M.
