Arts Lab is BACK offering a wide range of arts workshops that vary from one to multiple session! Here is a list of what you can enroll in at the Cannery:

Leatherworking - Sunday June 24, 1pm-4pm

Using leather, deisgn & create your own small clutch in an afternoon. Elaine will run you through design ideas, creation, and the finishing touches on your own functional leather creation!

Still Life Drawing - Thursday June 14 for two weeks, 6pm-8pm

Still life is considered the best subject in art for learning and teaching the skills of drawing. In this 2 week course Jason will provide knowledge that will improve your general drawing skills through still life based tuition. Props, such as flowers, will be used to assist in teaching you how to look at objects and see them like an artist. Materials provided include paper, various pencils (2B, 4B, HB), charcoal, and erasers.

Discover Printmaking - Monday June 11 for three weeks, 6pm-9pm

Design your own t-shirt, create your own lino print, use the printing press, and create encaustic, or wax, prints - this 3 week course has it all! Naomi will guide you through the basics of four different printmaking techniques. Suitable for those who have attended print classes in the past, as well as novices.

Portraits in an Evening - Thursday June 7, 6pm-9pm

This session is suitable for those who have never attempted a drawing course in the past, as well as those who attended the portrait session in term 1. Jason will give a concise introduction to the art of portrait drawing in an evening. Participants will explore the anatomy of the face and learn the secrets of how to achieve a likeness using perception, space, shadows and measurement - in a relaxed and enjoyable environment. All materials provided.

Pottery Wheel - Wednesday June 6 for four weeks, 6pm-9pm

This course provides you with the skills to make cylindrical forms such as cups, beakers, bowls and vessels. Within the 4 weeks, you will learn how to prepare and centre your clay on the pottery wheel to make vessels that can be used in your home. Students will learn how to glaze their work and the basics skills of packing and firing a kiln. This course caters for all skill levels from beginners to advanced. Student work must be collected promptly within 3 weeks of completion. Please bring an old towel, a notebook and something for yourself to eat in the break.

Pottery Combo (Wheel and Sculpture) - Tuesday June 6 for four weeks, 6pm-9pm

Catering for all skill levels from beginners to advanced, this course combines the art of both wheel throwing and hand building. Over 4 weeks you will make clay forms such as plates, cups, and platters using moulds and forms, in addition to learning how to prepare and centre your clay on the pottery wheel to make vessels that can be used in your home. Students will also learn how to glaze their work and the basics skills of packing and firing a kiln.
