Grab your goggles and swimming caps, a swimming comp is coming to Esperance on June 3rd!

Official swim meets demand an Olympic-sized swimming pool and dolphin timing system. Even if it is a 25m race the swimming pool has to be shortened to the required distance for it to be deemed a recognised meet.

Therefore, the ‘unofficial’ tag was born and it sets the mood for a day of fun and competitive swimming against your friends and others in the community at the Bay of Isle Leisure Centre. Competitors can choose to nominate for one or all strokes, freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke and (the dreaded) butterfly, across a 25 m, 50 m and 100 m distance.

The comp is open to everyone in the competition so long as you can swim!

Race nominations close this Sunday May 27, so get in quick. Nomination forms can be collected from EACS, the Bay of Isle Leisure centre and from Dempster sports. $2 per race and free for pool spectators. There are age divisions as well as the coveted OPEN category.

The competition is being organised by EACS student Maddilyn McGrinder as part of her Big Picture project, and is supported by the Esperance Amateur Swim Club, The Shire of Esperance, BOILC and other local businesses.

So, get your swimming trunks ready, limber up and start your training NOW and I will see you on June 3 down at the Bay of Isle Leisure centre!
