From the owners that brought you Etsu, Commune and Aloha Bar have just dropped the opening date for their latest venture  - Iku Yakitori Bar.

What started as a simple idea for a hole-in-the-wall Yakitori bar (Japanese style skewered chicken), with a few beers and some Japanese Whisky has taken on a life of it's own. And we are very glad it did.

On Tuesday 7th October, the doors will open at the Burleigh Heads premises after months of preparation and planning inside the late Mt Woodgee surf shop along the Gold Coast Highway.

The extensive whisky collection will feature their very own Iku Malt which is made in house from a Japanese malt whisky. The drop has been matured in ex red wine French oak casks and heavily charred by a cooperage in South Australia.

"The cocktail list will be created weekly and we will have a large selection of whisky, sake, shochu and a carefully selected wine list."

- Nerissa, Owner

If you are a Whisky connoisseur, prepare yourself for a handful of specially selected and super rare 18-year-old Yamazaki Mizunara.

The decor will be nothing short of spectacular. Lots of recycled timber, leather and concrete, and a sexy blue velvet lounge dining area down the back near our whisky bar.

"Some our seating will be traditional “tatami” style (sitting with legs crossed)."

- Nerissa, Owner

The 50-seat venue will also be dim lit by handmade lanterns straight from Japan.

Don't be fooled by the name. Traditional Yakitori is chicken, but there'll have a selection of raw and cooked seafood, meat and vegan and vegetarian options too, cooked on some of the best charcoal in the world to heighten the flavor.

"There will be a long open kitchen so our guests can watch their food prepared and cooked on our large custom made Robata grill."

- Nerissa, Owner

Open 7 nights a week from 5pm reservations can be made in the next couple of days. Stay tuned.
