Finally – a good news headline for cricket!
The KOFM Cup has been decided for the 2017/18 season, with the Cricketers Arms HWCC claiming a three wicket win over Merewether at Jesmond Park.
All rounder Riley McNaughton made over 400 runs with the bat this season, but it was with the ball where he did the damage in the decider, taking 3 for 14 as the Lions were restricted to just a total of just 68 runs, bowled out in the 31st over.
Merewether’s defence of the total started well, dismissing the competition’s leading run scorer Thomas Sullivan (507 runs this season) for just five, but Jack McPherson top scored with 24 to help the Cricketers Arms to the title.
The KOFM Cup and Newcastle C and S Cricket Presentation Evening will be held on the 4th of May, with former Blues and Australian fast bowler Doug Bollinger the guest of honour!
