A whopping 32 sports will hit our region early next month with thousands of competitors travelling to the region from across the state.

The annual North Queensland Games is recognised as the largest multi-sport event in regional Australia and is set to be held from May 5 to 7.

Gymnastics and netball alone have already secured more than 1000 competitors from all over the state, but registrations for some sports are still open.

“We can’t wait to see the Mackay region come alive with athletes from all over the north.  This is our games and we are really proud to have it in Mackay.”

- Games organising committee chair Cr Kevin Casey

Gymnastics coordinator Michelle Morassi, of Mackay Gymnastics, said they were happy with the numbers, especially considering there wasn’t a junior component.

“So, considering this is just men’s and women’s divisions, we are excited to have 325 gymnasts converging on our region from Townsville, Mareeba, Emerald, Moranbah and Yeppoon."
