Tourism WA announced that Bunbury and Busselton will co-host the Hockey Australia 2018 Australian Women’s and 2019 Australian Men’s Masters Hockey Championships. This will see the Bunbury Hockey Centre as the main venue with two pitches being used for the championships and the City of Busselton providing support with the use of a third pitch.

The City of Bunbury will contribute $80,000 over the two years however the return on investment has been calculated at more than $15,000,000 as the event will bring in close to 3000 participants over the two championships. The City of Busselton has contributed $40,000 over the two years.

About 900 women are expected to take part in the women’s championships over 140 matches between 27 September and 6 October 2018 with 85% arriving from outside of WA. The age divisions range from over 35 to over 65 years.

In 2019 about 1800 men will descend upon Bunbury for about 302 matches during the men’s championships with 85% of those coming from outside of the State. The age divisions range from over 35 to over 75.
