Experience the magic

Balingup Small Farm Field Day has showcased many aspects of small farming; caring for the land and animals, growing trees and food, cooking with fresh local ingredients and creating fashion and crafts with natural products.

With over 300 trade and market stalls, along with a wide range of farm machinery and equipment, agricultural and nursery supplies, there is something for all the family to browse, learn and enjoy.

A range of growers and gardeners specialising in everything from organic fertiliser to unusual fruits and vegetables will impart their knowledge on the basics of growing and preparing your own backyard produce. Informed choices about whether to plant olives, mushrooms, trees, or even to just have a few chooks, will be made easier after talking to people who have learnt through experience.

Let your taste buds be surprised by the array of delicious local produce that the field day brings together. Taste the wine, cheese and gourmet delights. Have a look at what the kids are learning about, cooking with fresh ingredients in the ‘Kids in the Kitchen’ workshops (bookings essential).

Visit trade stalls for advice on machinery and equipment and for those interested in renewable resources and sustainable family living there are many exhibits on the oval featuring solar power, water storage and thermally efficient building.

You will be inspired by local craftspeople exhibiting and selling a wide range of goods including woodwork, pottery, patchwork and quilting, fashion and jewellery, all with the emphasis on being “home-produced”.

A group of volunteers from the Balingup community organise this event each year. The profits made from the field day help finance worthy community projects.
