Discover Wheezing Workhorses

Step back in time

In today’s world when it is easy to find a machine that can help us to undertake even the most mundane of tasks, it is hard to imagine a time when machines were not so prevalent, definitely not so slick but still helped our pioneers in their daily lives.  This month, on June 24, the South West Rail and Heritage Centre invites visitors to discover some of the “Wheezing Workhorses” that were used back in the day and probably saved more than a few back and muscle aches.

Along with our visitors, the Old Machinery Club, our Preston River Old Machinery Group will ‘rev’ up some of these mechanical sloggers.  Visitors will be able to see and hear them in action and appreciate the creativity and foresight that lead to their construction.

The SWRHC’s resident groups , the Boyanup Foundation Blacksmiths, the Capel Men’s Shed and the South West Model Railway Group will all be in operation, in addition to our intrepid railway carriage restorers bringing the 100 year old carriage back to its former beauty.

South West Rail and Heritage Centre, in Turner St, Boyanup will be open from 10am to 2pm on Sunday June 24 and entry is by donation.  Light refreshments will be available from the Picnic Van and a sausage sizzle.
