It's been confirmed: Triple M's Fire In The Sky will feature two fireworks displays, launched simultaneously from two locations. Some fireworks will be fired from the banks of the Fitzroy, while others will fire from a barge.
Rockhampton Region Mayor, Margaret Strelow, said the dual firing points would create a remarkable spectacle above the river.
“The fact that Triple M has confirmed the fireworks in their Fire In The Sky event will be launched from both the riverbank and from the river itself means bringing in the New Year will be even more special for our community," Mayor Strelow said.
“It's just fantastic to see private enterprise in our region stepping up and offering such exciting and free events to our residents. The evening promises to be spectacular and will be testament to what can be achieved when Council and businesses work together."
While Triple M lights up the night sky, council has organised for amusements, food vendors and jumping castles to be located on Quay Street.
For the safety of event organisers and the community, temporary road closures will be in place from 4pm Sunday, 31 December to 6am Monday, 1 January:
